Biography

Like blue-eyed soul mixed with Yo La Tengo and The Kinks, The Ohesians are authentic and unforgettable family band with an impressively diverse catalog of original material.

A veteran performer with experience in numerous musical theater and drama productions, singer Kelly Yerxa-Lauth commands the stage with her distinctive voice and multi-instrumental abilities. She is supported by band members Kevin and Brendan Lauth, her husband and brother-in-law respectively, also adept multi-instrumentalists and performers. Together, The Ohesians pack a hefty punch, delivering a memorable performance filled to the brim with catchy melodies and diverse compositions.

One of things that sets The Ohesians apart from other bands is their practice of switching instruments throughout their set, the result of which is a truly multifaceted show highlighting the wealth of styles to be found in the band's catalog. Fans and first-time audiences alike have responded well to the custom, describing it as eccentric and musically refreshing, like a band that reinvents itself between each song.

The Ohesians have been actively involved with a group of local bands, known collectively as The Manifolds, recording and performing together in western Pennsylvania for the last four years. During that time, members of the band have recorded seven of their own records and produced four more for other bands.

History

Brothers Kevin and Brendan Lauth originally formed the group Eddie Wooden Fingers in high school and performed around central Ohio for three years. The band dissolved in the interest of higher education but not before releasing their first and only album, "Greatest Hits".

Kevin Lauth and Kelly [Yerxa] met, dated, and ultimately produced an album called "Countdown to Forever" under the moniker The Smooth Morning. The two occasionally performed selections from this album with the help of other musicians.

After leaving college in Tennessee, Kevin Lauth joined his brother and fiance in Pittsburgh and formed what would later become known as The Manifolds. At first a five-piece and then a four-piece, The Manifolds performed around the Pittsburgh area a growing set of original material along with several Smooth Morning songs. Ultimately the group came into its current configuration, a three-piece group of multi-instrumental musicians.

Throughout this time, a series of short concept albums of varied style were recorded by the brothers separate from their live material. In effort to better classify an ever-growing catalog of solo and collaborative works, The Manifolds were reformed to include the bands Bearskin, Autonomous Rex, Earlybird, Eller, Nicky Driscoll and the Poseurs, and The Ohesians, the last being former configuration of The Manifolds. The Ohesians, as Brendan, Kevin, and Kelly Lauth, continue to perform, produce, and record great music.

A bass guitar, keyboard, and occasional drum set will run through a mixer and out to an amplified set of stereo speakers and a subwoofer in order that a loop machine can be utilized. As such, there is no bass stack or keyboard amp to mic, but instead it will be necessary to mic the stereo speakers and subwoofer as well as the Fender guitar amp and drum set.
